Introduction to Souriau’s geometric thermodynamics

概要：

Jean-Marie Souriau developed a geometric approach to equilibrium statistical mechanics based on symmetry and Lie group actions. In this introductory talk, I will present the main ideas of the theory, starting from their physical motivation and building the formalism step by step. We will see how temperature is connected to the symmetries of a system and how the space of thermodynamic states carry a natural geometric structure. The discussion will be illustrated by two simple examples: a centrifuge and the family of Gaussian distributions.
